新潟県出身。東京音楽大学卒業。3歳からピアノを5歳からエレクトーンと作曲を始め、トランペットを元NHK交響楽団首席 津堅直弘、小池伸幸に師事。 「YAMAHA管楽器プレイヤーズコンテスト」グランプリ受賞、「浅草ジャズコンテスト」にてベストプレイヤー賞（大会MVP）を2度受賞（第38回、第41回）、「第4回新潟ジャズコンテスト ソロプレイヤー部門」優勝、 「MXTVゼベックスオンラインバトル」優勝、 「Art for Life 20th ADLIB CONTEST」 BEST PRODUCTION賞、「クリヤマコトNOTHIN'BUT JAZZ ADLIB CONTEST」 準優勝。2024年7月に葛西レオQUINTETを結成し、以来毎回チケット完売の大好評ライブ企画を開催。今年、約2000組のアーテイストの中から”今後のエンターテインメント業界に新風を巻き起こし新たな芸術の世界を切り開くJAPAN VALUEの存在“として、宮本亞門らによって日比谷フェスティバル2025のNEXTアーティストに選ばれ、東京ミッドタウン日比谷にて昼夜公演を行う。ཕ全編オリジナル楽曲によるアルバム『WADO』リリース。

音大在学時より国内外のアーティスト、ドラマ、CM音楽等のレコーディング、音楽制作、ホ－ンアレンジ等のスタジオワークに加え、オーケストラ、ビッグバンド、ジャズコンボ、クラブ、ファッションショー、東京モーターショー、XFRAG PARK等での音楽制作および演奏等活動は多岐に渡る。その他MIDI関連のライセンスも複数保有し多数のエフェクターを駆使する等エレクトロ、アンビエント的サウンドも得意とする。管楽器専門誌でのコラム連載、全国各地でのワークショップ等、後進の指導にも注力。また強制倍音を応用させた独自のテクニックを法螺貝に駆使してあらゆる旋律を可能とする世界的にも類稀な法螺貝奏者でもある。法螺貝奏者としては作曲家池辺晋一郎からもソリストとして招聘を受けホールコンサートに出演している。

Reo Kasai – Trumpeter / Composer / Multi-Instrumentalist

Born in Niigata, Japan, Reo Kasai is a graduate of Tokyo College of Music. He began playing the piano at age 3 and started studying Electone and composition at 5. As a trumpeter, he studied under esteemed musicians Naohiro Tsuken and Nobuyuki Koike, both former principal players of the NHK Symphony Orchestra.

Kasai has received numerous prestigious accolades, including the Grand Prix at the YAMAHA Wind Instrument Players Contest, and twice earned the Best Player Award (MVP) at the Asakusa Jazz Contest (38th and 41st editions). He also won the Solo Player Division at the 4th Niigata Jazz Contest, took first place in the MXTV Zebex Online Battle, and was honored with the Best Production Award at the Art for Life 20th ADLIB Contest. Additionally, he was runner-up in the Makoto Kuriya Nothin’ But Jazz Adlib Contest.

In July 2024, he founded the Reo Kasai Quintet, whose performances have sold out consistently, gaining widespread acclaim. In 2025, among over 2,000 artist candidates, he was selected by renowned director Amon Miyamoto and others as a “NEXT Artist” for the Hibiya Festival 2025, recognized as a groundbreaking figure in the next generation of entertainment and arts in Japan. He is scheduled to give both daytime and evening performances at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya and will release his full original album WADO the same year.

Kasai’s career spans a wide range of activities, from recording and producing music for artists, TV dramas, and commercials, to arranging horns and performing in orchestras, big bands, jazz combos, clubs, fashion shows, the Tokyo Motor Show, and events like XFLAG PARK. A skilled MIDI technician with multiple certifications, he incorporates a wide variety of effects to create electronic and ambient soundscapes.

He also contributes to education through nationwide workshops, column writing in wind instrument magazines, and mentoring young musicians. Uniquely, he is an internationally rare conch shell (horagai) performer, utilizing a self-developed technique based on forced overtones to perform a wide range of melodies. As a horagai soloist, he has even been invited by celebrated composer Shin’ichiro Ikebe to perform in hall concerts.
